A big welcome to our new website! We are so proud to be able to present information of importance to lovers of Irish Traditions. You do not have to “have the Irish on you” in order to attend events or even accept positions of responsibility in our organization. What binds us together is a keen desire to maintain the Living Traditions of the Irish culture.

Culture is expressed and carried through many different channels. It can be by: language, customs, celebations, values, beliefs, lifestyles, dance, writings, art, and music- to name a few.

We are currently celebrating our 20th anniversary of doing just that and see a future where we will continue to create new programming for our community.

Even though you do not need to be Irish, it is important to note that over 19% of the population of Greater Sudbury (2006 Census, Statistics Canada) identifies itself with being ethnically Irish. The traditional arts do belong to this community as they express the identity of a significant portion of the population.

The theme of our programs this year is Macalla - An Echo of The Past... A Vision for The Future. Macalla is the Irish word for echo. We, at Sudbury Irish Arts, respect the past and will bring the traditions forward into the future so they are not lost to our collective identity. It is our aim to share our culture with the larger community and contribute to the social wellbeing of the community and enhance our collective quality of community life.

Feicfidh mé go luath thú / See you soon

Crystal McCollom/Chair
